Warframe’s next chapter will explore a new star system

The next chapter of Warframe is coming, and it’s taking players across the stars to Tau.

The Old Peace will be Warframe’s year-end update. Developer Digital Extremes revealed limited but exciting details about the story at its annual TennoCon event.

The expansion will take players to Tau, a distant star system that is the holy grail of Warframe lore. A failed attempt to reach Tau is the backbone of Warframe’s expansive, operatic narrative. But the developers didn’t reveal where in that narrative The Old Peace takes place.

The trailer seems to show the player’s Operator character, accompanied by Loid and the Lotus, undergoing some kind of experiment to access memories of Tau. We see them playing with a childhood Sentient friend, Adis, before a rebellion on one of Tau’s moons throws this happy memory into chaos.

None of that make sense? Well, don’t worry because there’s never been a better time to start playing Warframe. In addition to this new narrative chapter, which will be released in late 2025, Digital Extremes also said that their fall update will feature a new quest called “The Teacher,” developed with Sumo Digital, which will provide another way for players to learn about modding, one of Warframe’s most important (and least-explained) systems.

As part of The Old Peace, Digital Extremes will also debut a new Warframe, Uriel, and a standalone quest about “the Devil’s Triad” of Uriel and new Protoframes of Harrow and Wisp. More information about Warframe’s future will be announced during Digital Extremes’ October devstream.

EA's big reveal for its next Battlefield game may already be spoiled

Looks like we can skip the drum roll for the next Battlefield title reveal. Seen in a leak of Electronic Arts' upcoming first-person shooter, the company is shipping promotional materials to content creators for Battlefield 6. The name drop may not be all that surprising, but the highly anticipated title could be a turning point for EA that follows up on Battlefield 2042, which was released in 2021 and currently sits at a Mixed review rating on Steam.

In the since-deleted post, gaming YouTuber DooM49 revealed a promotional crate labeled Battlefield 6 that was reportedly sent to him by EA. The mysterious package was secured by straps that could hint at potential game modes, with words like "conquest," "breakthrough" and "rush" wrapped around the box. Another Battlefield content creator, rivaLxfactor, shared more details about the rumored EA event, corroborating the info from DooM49. As seen in the post on X, EA will reportedly hold a three-day event to reveal Battlefield 6, starting on July 29. The event will also reportedly feature interviews with the game's developers and show off some content with invited guests. The leaks also point to EA potentially launching the open beta for Battlefield 6 after the event.

EA hasn't confirmed the leaks, nor announced an official reveal event yet. However, EA previously detailed in its fourth quarter financial results that it would reveal the new Battlefield game in the summer. After the official reveal, the company plans to launch the next Battlefield title before April 2026, according to EA's roadmap.

Bungie promises to fix Destiny 2's new metroid-style morph ball as it makes players sick and glitches out on ultrawide monitors

Destiny 2's new expansion, Edge of Fate, is not having an easy time winning over players, with fewer returning to check it out and controversial balance changes souring the mood. You can also add making players physically ill to the list, with the game's new Matterspark prompting widespread complaints of motion sickness.

Thankfully, Bungie is already on the case with this issue. "We will be making changes to Matterspark soon to reduce motion sickness and visual issues," the Destiny 2 Team account wrote on Twitter. "Until then, players can change specific Settings that may help reduce these issues. Please view our guide for more information." The suggested changes aren't that complicated, with Bungie recommending players reduce their fps cap and turn off motion blur when in Matterspark mode.

The Edge of Fate expansion introduced Matterspark mode, where players transform into a little glowing bowling ball to solve puzzles, similar to the morph ball from Metroid Prime. A thread on the Destiny subreddit by titanthrowaway11 features the author stating they can't play in Matterspark mode for more than 20-30 minutes, while numerous commenters complain of similar visual issues and physical reactions to the mode.

As a long-lapsed D2 player, I turned to YouTube to see what all the hubbub was about, and god damn, watch at your own risk. I don't get motion sick playing games (with one notable exception to date), but a bare few seconds of WoW Quests' gameplay had my stomach churning—ditto for PC Gamer contributor Rick Lane.

What's more, PCG brand director Tim Clark reported severe strobing/flashing issues on his ultrawide setup, and noted seeing other players complain of the same problem. Presumably this is at least one of the "visual issues" Bungie's looking to address.

The fact that a fix is already on the way ameliorates things somewhat, but as Geralt of Rivia once said, it's another "bitter drop in a chalice full of sorrow." Far more challenging to address are lingering structural issues that Destiny has struggled with even during the salad days of beloved expansions like The Taken King and Forsaken.

Then you add the lingering community distrust over years of layoffs and the feeling that Destiny is on its way out in favor of the embattled Marathon—a sentiment that's hardly helped by The Final Shape having been such a great send-off for the series. PCG editor-in-chief Phil Savage did an excellent job capturing these sentiments in a recent "state of the game" assessment of Destiny.
