HAEX is Survival Shooter Made by Veterans From Massive Entertainment and Epic Games

Developer Dead Astronauts – a studio made up of industry veterans who have previously worked at Massive Entertainment and Epic Games – has unveiled its debut game with a trailer. Dubbed HAEX, the game will be a first-person survival shooter with multiplayer elements, set in an alien-scarred wilderness that also happens to be engulfed by some strange mist.

The core narrative of HAEX revolves around the players trying to track down missing members of their science expedition after surviving a helicopter crash and waking up in a strange new environment. The overarching story involves an anomaly showing up in the sub-Arctic northern regions of the world, where players were sent to investigate.

The primary goal of the players is to figure out what caused the anomaly to show up to begin with, while also trying to figure out why fellow expedition members went missing under mysterious circumstances.

HAEX can be played both solo as well as in multiplayer with up to three other players. The primary threats that players will have to deal with can range from alien creatures to strange machines that are coming out of the mist. Along with this, the environment will also play a crucial role, and players will need to prepare themselves to be ready for just about anything.

The studio has noted that, among other things, players will have to manage their body temperature, hunger, thirst, and resources. Loadout preparation will also seemingly play a key role in determining how well players will be able to do, and there will also be a need for players to constantly switch out their tactics depending on the weapons they have and the threats they are facing.

Player progression will carry over between different sessions, so players don’t really have to worry about not being able to play by themselves while their friends are offline.

HAEX doesn’t yet have a release date, and is currently only slated for release on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store as an Early Access title.

Fortnite’s Chapter 7 Season 3 Map May As Well Be Brand New

Epic Games is pulling an extremely surprising move to start Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3, by mixing up the existing Battle Royale island so extensively that it feels like a totally new one. It's a pretty unprecedented situation, but it's also an exciting one, because we like new things.

The new island is called Shattered Coast, and it's sort of a remix of the previous version of the Chapter 7 island, with most of the old POIs being remixed into something new, and the landscape between each spot being altered dramatically. For example, Battlewood is now Battlewoods, and has shifted from being a concrete urban landscape into a forest town. New Sanctuary has moved from being in the middle of the desert to being in a tropical paradise, similar to the environment around the old Sanctuary in Chapter 3.

We'll expand this article once we've had the chance to dive into the Shattered Coast and explore it for ourselves in real depth, but for now you can enjoy this first glimpse at the makeovers that some of our favorite spots have received. Good news, though: As you'll see below, Wonkeeland hasn't changed much at all. Though everything around it certainly has.

Some of the locations in these images are tough to pinpoint, but you'll at least see the new versions of Squibbly Shores, Latte Landing, Sandy Strip, New Sanctuary, and Battlewood.

CAPCOM Doubles Down on Monster Hunter Wilds With 2027 Ascendance Expansion After Lapsed Players Returned Post-Launch Fixes

A promotional image for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance shows two characters exploring a vast, rocky landscape with floating islands and cascading waterfalls.

Besides announcing the Resident Evil Code Veronica remake, which is dropping the “Code” from the original's name, CAPCOM had other announcements to share during this year's Summer Game Fest showcase. Among them was a massive expansion to Monster Hunter Wilds called Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance, which is launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S sometime in 2027. The announcement trailer provided the first look at a brand-new location filled with floating islands and ruins, which already looks significantly more vibrant than anything in the base game. In addition, the trailer also provided a look at the core new […]

"Overwhelming power": Fumito Ueda's giant robot game gets an official title and, wait a minute, is that a gun?

Friends, it is almost time to be very, very sad because a massive metal man fell over and died. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda has dropped the first proper footage of his forthcoming mech game project, announced back in 2024 with the codename Project Robot. The official title is Gen Atlas.

Ueda and development studio genDESIGN have also shared details of the game's plot and setting. It's described as "a single-player, open-world action-adventure game", and takes place on an abandoned, "living" planet full of derelict machines.

Gen Atlas is a desolate mech game from the director of Shadow of the Colossus

After a multi-year wait, we've finally gotten a proper look at the next game from Fumito Ueda, the celebrated director behind Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. True to Ueda's past work, the trailer shows us a lone playable character in a desolate world backed up by a peculiar companion. In this case, that companion is a giant robot.

Personally? I'm sold by the mech fights alone, but the promise of another immersive story that'll have me emotionally wrecked by the end makes it all the sweeter.

You can check out the trailer in full below.

One thing's notably different from Ueda's previous games, however, as this one's not exclusive to PlayStation. Gen Atlas will come to PS5, of course, but it'll also be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC.

This game actually debuted back at The Game Awards in 2024, where it was revealed in partnership with Epic Games Publishing. Epic is still credited as publisher now that the game has a proper title, so while that probably explains the multiplatform launch, I wouldn't hold my breath on it coming to Steam.

Ueda led some of the most notable games of the PS2, with Ico and Shadow of the Colossus regularly cited as among the very best games ever made. The Last Guardian launched after a decade-long wait to general acclaim, though certainly less than its predecessors.

Gen Atlas's eventual launch will mark another decade-long wait for Ueda fans, but with so few games coming even close to his trademark style, that wait is certainly looking worthwhile.
