Story–driven games need strong writing and noteworthy characters to work. It's an immutable fact. So I was more than a little surprised to find Demonschool, an RPG from developer Necrosoft with Persona-like ambitions, treat both with such a lack of consideration. If you’re going to invite comparisons to one of the most acclaimed and beloved series out there, you probably want that comparison to be a flattering one. But Demonschool falls far short of that standard in terms of pacing, plotting, and character development.

Andy Weir’s 2021 novel Project Hail Mary starts off a lot like his 2011 debut novel The Martian, with an astronaut stranded in space relying on his wits and humor to do a lot of problem-solving. But while both works are very grounded in real science, Project Hail Mary gets much more speculative around page 125, when astronaut Ryland Grace makes contact with a highly intelligent alien he dubs Rocky.

As I've said many times, my MMO journey didn't begin with World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy 14: it began with Guild Wars 2. While I've found myself falling behind in both Blizzard and Square Enix's respective epics, I always find time to at least check out the latest chapter of the GW2 saga - sometimes, you need that little nostalgia-driven dopamine hit. With Visions of Eternity now out in the world, accompanied by two elite classes inspired by its predecessor, now is the perfect time for the original Guild Wars to also get some love - and that, thankfully, is exactly what NCSoft has done.
