Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is Getting a New Story Trailer Imminently

Under ordinary circumstances, you wouldn’t expect excitement surrounding an expansion to be monumentally high by any means, but FromSoftware tends to be exempt from ordinary circumstances, and its upcoming Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has, to no one’s surprise, got more than a few people quite excited to finally get their hands on it. Ahead of its looming release, publisher Bandai Namco is looking to drive up that hype further.

A new story trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is set to go live soon. A premiere video has been uploaded to YouTube by Bandai Namco, with the publisher confirming that it will be going live a little over two hours from now, at about 8 AM Pacific / 11 AM Eastern / 3 PM UTC. Judging by past trailers, we can probably expect a decently healthy glimpse at gameplay, several bosses, and more. Stay tuned for the trailer.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree launches on June 21 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It is going to be Elden Ring’s first and only expansion, though FromSoftware hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a sequel.

Escape From Tarkov Developers Somehow Make A Bad Situation Even Worse

It might be a good idea for Escape From Tarkov developers Battlestate Games to hire a PR person. It’s arguable that the team’s current approach of just making awful decisions as loudly as possible isn’t doing enormous good for its reputation. Last month saw a new PvE mode for the first-person shooter gated behind a…

Final Fantasy 9 Remake is Real, Final Fantasy 10 Remake is Not – Rumour

Square Enix is of course at work on the final instalment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, though past reports have claimed that with Final Fantasy 9 and 10, the company also has additional Final Fantasy remake projects in the works. According to fresh claims from a typically reliable leaker, however, that might not be entirely accurate.

As per prominent leaker Midori, only half of the aforementioned rumour is true. Responding to a question on Twitter, Midori recently claimed that though Square Enix does indeed have Final Fantasy remakes in the works, a remake of Final Fantasy 10, contrary to past reports, doesn’t exist. That said, the leaker also claims that the long-rumoured Final Fantasy 9 Remake is indeed real and in the works.

When the rumoured remake will be officially unveiled remains to be seen, though fans of Final Fantasy 10 will be disappointed to know that it isn’t being brought back as some may have anticipated, if Midori’s claims are indeed accurate.

Recently, a remake of Final Fantasy 9 was seemingly teased by Naoki Yoshida, director and producer of Final Fantasy 14 and producer of Final Fantasy 16. Read more on that through here.

Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks and months.

Starving Heroes of Might & Magic fans finally eat as spiritual successor Songs of Conquest leaves its 2-year early access behind

Songs of Conquest, the really quite good and really quite pretty Heroes of Might & Magic-like that first hit early access in 2022, has reached its final form. Well, kind of. The game has finally left early access for the sunlit uplands of a 1.0 release, but the devs promise more development to come: "This is merely the beginning of a new chapter in our epic saga," they say.

If you're not familiar, Songs of Conquest is a tactics game in the classic vein of stuff like Heroes of Might & Magic 3. You pick a faction and guide heroes around a sprawling world map, capturing resources, battling armies on a hex-based grid, and generally doing all you can to crush your enemies. At the same time, you have to defend your home base and guide it up a ladder of production from 'dinky hamlet that spits out the occasional pikeman' to 'dread factory of war'.

It's a good time, especially given the striking absence of HoMM-likes on the modern videogame market, and it earned the much-sought approval of PCG's own strategy czar Fraser Brown in its early access form. With the 1.0 release comes a new campaign that will "conclude the epic adventure that began with the Baronies of Arleon fighting for power, the rise of the Rana to reclaim the Marsh, and the loyalist of Loth determined to bring back a dead Empress."

All of which sounds quite urgent, and I'm eager to leap into the game's 1.0 release and put a stop to these dead-Empress-returners myself. After all, despite the enduring popularity of the HoMM series (or at least its older entries), it feels like a format that studios find devilishly hard to nail down.

Heck, even the HD version of HoMM 3—something that ought to have been a slam-dunk—ended up just feeling like a low-fat version of the original game thanks to some crucial missing expansions. Having a good, modern 'one of these' out there and getting active development love seems like a treat too good to pass up.

If you fancy giving the game a go in its full-release form, you can find it on Steam, GOG, and Epic
