Eyeing the Helldivers 2 backlash with a nervous flop sweat, Sucker Punch assures us that Ghost of Tsushima won't need a PSN login for single player

PlayStation 5 samurai slice 'em up Ghost of Tsushima is finally coming to PC on May 16, and with all the sturm and drang around Sony stablemate Helldivers 2 introducing a PSN login requirement, developer Sucker Punch would like to remind us that the mostly single player Ghost of Tsushima will mostly not require that.

The clarification was first spotted by BluesNews: in response to a since-hidden Twitter comment that presumably referenced the controversy—and I can only assume not in a friendly way—Sucker Punch wrote: "Just so you are aware, a PSN account is required for Legends online multiplayer mode and to use PlayStation overlay. It is not required to play the singleplayer game."

Now this was my first clue that Ghost of Tsushima even had an online component: most praise for the game centers on its Assassin's Creed-style historical focus, open world exploration, and tight swordplay. Legends looks like a co-op horde mode that's largely siloed off from the base game—a cool extra, but you'll still get your money's worth if you don't want to sign in.

It's honestly kind of nice that going full single player doesn't require getting another account involved in things with Sony's PC lineup—that's more than I can say for the Halo Master Chief Collection, whose Microsoft account shenanigans have only ever been an impediment to my enjoyment of those games.

The Helldivers 2 controversy, meanwhile, seems to primarily be an issue of rollout and communication: players are already used to not having to deal with the extra hassle after months of play, and it remains unclear what will happen to users in countries that PSN does not support

Here are some of our favorite Star Wars Day deals

May the Fourth be filled with awesome deals on games, toys, and collectibles. | Image: Star Wars

Peruse these awesome deals on Star Wars stuff, you must, because today is May the Fourth. Fans of Lucasfilm’s iconic franchise have long celebrated this day as a kind of borderline-religious holiday of sorts, one that recognizes an ever-growing franchise that has been adapted for almost every type of media — and product — you can think of.

Since its debut in ‘77, Star Wars lore has been doled out in films, TV series, books and graphic novels, video games, and plenty of other mediums we’re surely oblivious to. It’s also inspired board games, toys, apparel, and enough merch to fill a galaxy far, far away. Many retailers commemorate May 4th by discounting the latter, and we’ve gone deep into the heap so you can see all of the best Star...

The Boys Season 4 Trailer Is Packed With Both Violence and Political Tension

With a little over a month until the fourth season of The Boys premieres, Prime Video has released a new trailer. The trailer shows a chaotic world filled with political tension and violence.

The season 4 trailer opens with Billy Butcher showing his vulnerable side, expressing regret for his choices throughout his life, hoping to rectify all his wrongdoings by saving the world. We also see Homelander, who provides a voiceover in the trailer, expressing to The Seven that they are pivoting from being "beloved celebrities" and rebranding themselves as gods.

We also briefly see Sam Riordan and Cate Dunlap, two characters originally appearing in The Boys spinoff show Gen V. In addition, Jeffrey Dean Morgan makes another appearance, talking to Butcher and asking for his help in taking down supes, and Butcher discovers a virus that can kill supes.

As previously depicted in the marketing for the upcoming season, The Boys' fourth season will occur during an election year, with political tension leading to violent encounters. Beyond the usual gore and violence we have come to expect from Prime Video's hit TV series, we also see political tension from the upcoming election resulting in violence.

In our review of The Boys' third season, IGN wrote, "The Boys' third Season achieves a balance between impactful storytelling and extreme violence that cements itself as one of the best shows on streaming, no matter the year or genre."

The Boys' season 4 premieres on June 14. For more, check out our ending explanations for season 3 and our breakdown of the season 1 finale for Gen V and how it will likely tie into The Boys' upcoming season.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Will Be Released Late In 2024

While the release of new Star Wars shows on Disney+ has slowed down from the pace of the last few years, The Acolyte won't be the only new live-action series this year. Via Collider, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew co-creator Jon Watts confirmed at CCXP Mexico that his series will be released around Christmas. Assuming that Disney+ intends to release new episodes weekly, Skeleton Crew's season would extend into 2025.

Watts and his frequent collaborator, Christopher Ford, conceived Skeleton Crew as the story of four children who discover a secret on their home world. The kids subsequently wind up on a starship and find themselves lost somewhere far from home. The series will take place during the same time period as The Mandalorian and Ashoka.

Jude Law, Kerry Condon, and Jaleel White are among the most prominent adult actors on the show. The rest of the cast includes Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Robert Timothy Smith, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, and Tunde Adebimpe.
