Cosplaying Gamers Will Raid EA HQ To Protest Saudi Arabia's $55 Billion Buyout

In the wake of Saudi Arabia's leveraged buyout of Electronic Arts for $55 billion, gamers upset by the takeover are planning to protest the publisher's Redwood, California, headquarters on May 11 in cosplay.

A movement known as the Players Alliance HQ has announced its intent to "raid" EA's headquarters on May 11 at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET. The goal is to denounce Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) buyout of the publisher, with cosplaying gamers planning to unravel a 50-foot scroll of over 70,000 petition signatures on the Madden football field at the center of the campus. There appears to be a whole performance involved in the protest as well, with gamers dressing in suits and top hats portraying the "corporate villains" behind the deal. Further, a giant health bar prop will slowly deplete as supporters digitally engage with the protest, and a loot-box demonstration will reveal a range of prizes like mass layoffs, studio closures, and aggressive monetization.

According to the press release, Players Alliance HQ fears that, should the $55 billion deal go through (which would saddle EA with $20 billion in debt), the company could face pressure to cut jobs, replace employees with AI, and institute price hikes to recoup the losses of the buyout.

Crimson Desert to get another update with "special mounts" and a way to recover materials, right after Pearl Abyss flew through its massive roadmap in record time

Crimson Desert was already a massive game at launch. It then had a massive roadmap promising to make it even bigger. And, now, developer Pearl Abyss is gearing up for yet another patch with all the energy of a Mentos dropping into a bottle of Coke.

"Hello Greymanes," the developer tweets for the 1748th time since launch. "We'd like to share some info about the schedule and major update content of our next patch." There's no concrete release date for this upcoming update, but it should be arriving sometime within the next few days.

As for what's included, the Crimson Desert studio promises "new special mounts, an extraction feature that will allow you to recover materials used in equipment refinement, and more." Pearl Abyss has been known to hide some changes from its patch notes, so don't be surprised if we get a little extra.

For context, Pearl Abyss only freshly mopped up the vast majority of what it set out to do in its three-month roadmap in mere weeks. The developer essentially did a game dev speedrun to add boss rematches and enemy re-blockades, extra difficulty modes, toggles to hide weapons, more storage options, and much more.

Since Crimson Desert's initial roadmap was set to last until sometime in June, everything added from here on out is largely unknown territory. Previous patch notes have said certain features are still a work in progress, so expect to see tweaks to things like those enemy re-blockades.

Pearl Abyss' PR lead recently explained the studio didn't have a concrete roadmap with set-in-stone dates attached because the devs wanted to listen to what Crimson Desert players had to say first, without acting on any presumptions. It's entirely possible that thought process will simply extend to all future post-launch updates with fan feedback largely steering the ship.

I imagine New Game Plus will likely be on the menu at some point, alongside even more bosses, enemies, armor kits, pets, mounts, and the like. Having sold over five million copies already, it wouldn't be too shocking to see an expansion or maybe, eventually, a sequel somewhere down the line.

If you're yet to play it, make sure to check out our Crimson Desert review to see why it's one of the biggest new games for 2026.

Sony confirms $765M in ‘impairment losses’ against Bungie in its 2025 fiscal year report

It’s probably a good thing for Sony that it has its thumbs in several different pies because the corporation’s financial results for the 2025 fiscal year are not exactly glowing in its gaming sector, and a fair bit of that rests in part at Bungie’s feet. The presentation slide that breaks down Sony’s game and network […]

Give yourself vampirism with a mortar and pestle in Dracula: The Disciple, an alchemist's castle puzzler from Styx devs Cyanide

Many are those who stray before Vlad the Impaler seeking eternal life as a vampire. Poor, ignorant cattle! Immortality is a goblet of ashes, a bouquet of thorns, an endless stairway among the fading portraits of bygone loves. Besides, you have to solve a bunch of alchemy puzzles first, and if I'm interpreting the announcement materials for Dracula: The Disciple correctly, you might only get halfway there and transform into a normal dude with a gross undead hand.
