Don't tell Xbox, but Halo: Campaign Evolved screenshots have leaked through the Microsoft Store and revealed space combat

Only a day away from the big Xbox Games Showcase, screenshots from Halo Campaign Evolved leaked onto the official Microsoft Store and they revealed quite a bit about the upcoming game.

Before today, Halo Studios had only really lifted the lid on one specific mission in Halo Campaign Evolved. That's all changed now thanks to screenshots attached to what sounds like two cosmetic DLC packages called the Alpha Halo Armory Pack and the Foundry Armory Pack, which have since been deleted from the storefront... but not before fans spread them online.

The screenshots include delightfully fluffy brutes, first looks at remade levels outside of Silent Cartographer, dear old Sergeant Johnson, and a blue (not purple) Cortana design that I'm sure won't be controversial at all within the community, right? Oh, there's also the reveal that Halo Campaign Evolved will take us into space combat sections.

That last point is a particularly big deal since 2001's Halo Combat Evolved had no such feature. In fact, Halo as a whole hasn't given us playable space battles since Halo Reach more than a decade ago - if you're not counting the aerial fights in Halo 4, I guess.

Still, Master Chief's been able to pilot alien aircraft since the very beginning, so it's not too jarring of an inclusion for a modern remake. Halo Studios previously revealed that Campaign Evolved would feature three all-new missions starring Johnson, so there's also a good likelihood these space sections will appear during that prequel arc. Though it's not impossible for them to be threaded into certain pre-existing levels, too.

Halo Campaign Evolved is set to launch sometime this year on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, and PS5. Tomorrow's Xbox Games Showcase should give us more official information about the game.

For now, here are five Xbox games to watch for at Summer Game Fest 2026

The Summer Game Fest showcase proves that PC is still the place to be

If you want to be at the forefront of gaming, you need to be on PC. That was the resounding message coming out of the Summer Game Fest 2026 showcase, where hosts Geoff Keighley and Lucy James ran down an impressive list of the biggest upcoming games. From news that we'll be getting the trilogy-ending Final Fantasy 7: Revelation on day one through to a near-complete checklist of games coming to PC across the show, I left the presentation feeling tremendously satisfied. On top of that, if you want to try a bunch of these games today, there's only one answer.
