The biggest PC gaming subreddit has blacklisted X for being 'hateful' and 'toxic', citing Elon Musk's 'distasteful' behavior

Reddit's largest community dedicated to PC gaming has blacklisted X, formerly known as Twitter, due to its "hateful, toxic" and "increasingly less moderated" state. An /r/pcgaming moderator made the announcement today, relegating Elon Musk's X to the naughty corner also enjoyed by lulz.com, oneangrygamer.net, and animebackgrounds.co.

"This is something that we've been contemplating for a little while now," subreddit moderator Shock4ndAwe wrote. "X has become increasingly hateful, toxic and less and less moderated. This has, in turn, made us less comfortable with letting our subreddit link it to other people. Not to mention the distasteful things Elon Musk has done recently."

The mod is probably referring to Musk's performance of a Nazi salute during his speech at US President Donald Trump's inauguration. The world's wealthiest man later denied that the Nazi salute was a Nazi salute, writing on X that "the 'everyone is Hitler' attack is sooo tired".

Whether one believes it was a Nazi salute or not—and it was—the moderators of /r/pcgaming aren't having a bar of X's increasingly wild west vibe, though users will still be able to post screenshots of posts from the platform. "In the interest of not stifling discussion and creating a better user experience, we are going to make image posts available… and allow content from X to be submitted as a screenshot as well as adding this to the exemption list on our original source rule (this rule preferences source material over pages citing source material). So if you find a web article that says exactly what the tweet does you're free to link that instead."

The morbidly amusing thing about this is that the world's wealthiest man might actually notice. Musk has lately been embroiled in a controversy around account-boosting on games like Path of Exile 2 and Diablo 4, after viewers noticed the discrepancy between his clearly low familiarity with POE 2 and the level 95 hardcore character he was commandeering. Musk has since admitted to account-boosting, which is against the terms of service for both games.

Next Mass Effect Seemingly Still Hasn’t Entered Full Production Yet

Reports were claiming until as recently as less than a year ago that the next Mass Effect hadn’t yet entered full production. At the time, with Dragon Age: The Veilguard still in development, the information didn’t come as a surprise. Even with the fantasy action RPG’s launch now now a handful of months in the rearview mirror, however, it seems the next Mass Effect still hasn’t graduated to the next phase of production.

That’s as per former veteran BioWare producer Mark Darrah, who left the studio in 2021, but continued to work in a consultation role on Dragon Age: The Veilguard. In a recently uploaded YouTube video on his personal channel, Darrah has stated that the next Mass Effect still hasn’t entered full production.

Officially confirmed to be in development back in 2020, the sci-fi title is allegedly still not ready to move to the next phase of production yet. As a result, the majority of BioWare staff is seemingly being temporarily allocated to other projects across different EA studios, until Mass Effect has advanced enough to be able to accommodate more people.

As per Darrah, BioWare has shifted to operating strictly as a single-game studio, which means Mass Effect is going to be the only internal project receiving its attention for some time to come. Previously, BioWare also confirmed that it had no plans to develop DLC for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

It’s worth reiterating, of course, that Darrah isn’t a current BioWare employee. He did spend over two decades at the studio, and also consulted on its most recent release, but he might not necessarily be fully aware on the exact inner workings of the studio.

Reports have claimed in the past though that the next Mass Effect might not launch until 2028 or even 2029, and this certainly tracks with that. Thankfully, Mass Effect TV series is officially in the works at Amazon Prime, so series fans have something to look forward to.

NCSoft’s Horizon MMO May Not Have Been Cancelled After All – Rumour

Recent reports claimed that the Horizon MMORPG rumoured to be in development at NCSoft had been cancelled. Amidst a fresh flurry of live service cancellations at PlayStation, that didn’t come as a huge surprise to many- but it now seems that the project may have survived the axe after all.

NCSoft has indeed cancelled the in-development title known internally as Project H, though contrary to speculation, it seems that game isn’t the Horizon MMO being made in collaboration with PlayStation and Guerrilla. That’s as per reporter Seo Jeong-geun, who wrote the original report for Korean outlet MTN from which this story emerged. Taking to Korean gaming forum Ruliweb, Jeong-geun that the Project H in question “has nothing to do with Horizon“.

Interestingly, job listings published by NCSoft indicate that the Horizon MMO is in development under the codename Project Skyline (via ResetEra). Though it was initially being worked on as Project H, it seems that codename was being held by an entirely different project that has now have been cancelled. That would mean NCSoft is still collaborating with Guerrilla and PlayStation on the Horizon title. The company signed a strategic partnership with Sony back in November of 2023.

Guerrilla is currently also working on a separate co-op Horizon project that is rumoured to be the studio’s next big release. Read more on that through here.

Obsidian recruits Matthew Mercer to explain Avowed’s extremely meaty lore

It’s almost time for Avowed to show us all what it’s got. Expectations are already set pretty high - it is an Obsidian RPG, after all - and over the last couple of years it’s done a pretty solid job at showcasing its gameplay. However, with Avowed sharing the same lore and universe as Obsidian’s criminally overlooked Pillars of Eternity games, the studio is doing a last-minute push to help newcomers understand the world of Eora. Oh, and it’s roped in prevalent voice actor Matthew Mercer to be Loremaster General.
