Larian once again reminds us it's 'not involved in any BG3-related projects' in response to Karlach comic reveal

Larian Studios has reiterated that it is fully, 100%, without a doubt, donezo in the bunzo when it comes to new Baldur's Gate-related projects. It's latest statement was in response to a Dark Horse comics announcement that could have been interpreted as implying the studio's involvement.

On X, "The Everything App," Dark Horse announced that a yet-untitled comic series starring Karlach, our favorite BG3 companion, is coming down the pike. The issue: Dark Horse signed off its post by saying the project was "With [Larian] and [Wizards of the Coast]," tagging both companies.

Makes sense. I mean, Larian famously did make Baldur's Gate 3 and the character of Karlach in the first place. But the studio seems keen to head off any suggestion that it is involved in Wizards of the Coast's post-BG3 spinoff projects.

"Maximum hijinks are happening right now, but we’re not involved in any BG3 related projects," the official Larian account wrote in response alongside a picture of CEO Swen Vincke and writing lead Adam Smith doing some kind of script read-through. "As soon as we bust outta here, we'll share more about [Divinity]."

Ever since Larian revealed that it would not be making Baldur's Gate 4, there has been a popular conception that there must have been some kind of dispute or grievance between it and D&D owner Wizards of the Coast. Vincke, for his part, has insisted that the split was amicable, and that the developers were just creatively spent working in someone else's setting.

The quick, sharp way Larian distanced itself from any suggestion of its involvement in Dark Horse's upcoming spinoff is certainly eyebrow-raising, but it's also understandable that the studio would not want any misconceptions about its output to spread, regardless of the nature of its parting ways with Wizards—I noticed at least one commenter say that they thought the studio's writing team may have been collaborating on the comic project before this exchange.

I, for one, am looking forward to Larian's next game, Divinity, set in its own fantasy world of Rivellon. If you'd like to catch up on the project, we've collected everything we know about the upcoming RPG in one place. We also have a guide to the Divinity series, including a recommended play order for the games—spoilers, it's pretty much reverse-chronological order of release.

Thick as Thieves studio does what triple-A won't: keep its game playable

Poor Thick as Thieves. When it was revealed over two years ago it had some promise, or at the very least an interesting mechanical premise in that it was a multiplayer immersive sim where everyone would be competing for the same loot. This got downgraded earlier this year ahead of its launch to just solo or co-op play, a real shame but hey ho, how many co-op imsims are there anyway? Sadly, the game has clearly not done well, as a number of layoffs have taken place at developer OtherSide Entertainment following its launch. But at the very least, what's left of the studio has some positive news: it won't become unplayable.
